Well here we are, this will be my first attempt at a weblog. So for anybody who reads this and is familiar with this medium, please be gentle on me for now.
An intro. My name is Alex and I have worked in the retail industry in Australia for over 30 years. My parents were also retailers, so I guess you can say that I was brought up behind the counter. (Remember those?) In amongst serving a gazillion customers I have managed to squeeze in some academic qualifications in marketing, so I guess you can say that selling is really in my blood.
Bootstrapping Laserfit Clothing, how did all this come about? I have been interested in the concept of mass customization for many years. As a seasoned retailer and budding marketer I could not understand why in the age of electronic communications the age old art of getting a tailor made suit had not changed. In fact it had become harder not easier as most suppliers of quality products have been killed off by the big retailers and choice went out the window in the name of mass production.
Here was a industry that could take advantage of a new era of communication to reduce costs, improve quality and deliver a better service....how good was that. But was there anyone doing this? Very few.
Seeing an opportunity for a bit of immersion learning I thought, I can do this, how hard could it be to set a system get some partners together and away we go...no problems.
That was two years ago, but we are now at a point where all the work that we have done behind the scenes can pop up into the radar line. Hence the title Bootstrapping Laserfit Clothing.
I intend to take an unconventional approach to this business and to use this weblog to make our operation as transparent as possible.
People might say, your crazy, but I have this fundamental confidence in people that they generally do the right thing. So if there is something someone can learn from this weblog or if they want to use it in their own business feel free. Just remember that when you need a new suit gives us a shot. Visit our website at www.laserfit.com.au for details on our products and service.
I will post "chunks" over the next few days about our journey so far so that the readers have some background about what we have had to do to get this far.
